BKK to UK

On my flight from BKK to UK, I asked for an aisle seat. When I got on board, my heart sank on the discovery that it was a window seat and the two seats next to me were occupied by two really large guys. They both had tattoos on their arms too. They didn't know each other. The fellow sitting next to me - his wrist was thicker than my ankle, but he turned out to really gentlemanly and would kind of look out for me and helped to pass the drinks from the stewardess to me.

I felt sorry I have to wake the guys up a number of times to go to the bathroom and both had to get out of the seats. The guy next to the aisle went only once to the loo in the entire 12 hr journey while the guy next to me went only 3 times. I don't know how they do it even if they have got bigger pee tank.

Thankfully, we didn't make conversation and their companionship was most pleasant. I am wary of chatty neighbours especially after some trying experiences. I guess when one is younger, youth looks inviting.. now bizarre incidents happen a lot less (hahaha). I remember years back, sitting next to an Australian who got a little too friendly when his arm "accidentally' dropped into my lap when he was dozing.

Then there was that time when China started to open up, I had the misfortune of sitting next to 2 mainland Chinese men on their first overseas trip. They were so excited about their trip that they insisted on talking to me, telling me about their business and giving me their namecard even though I kept putting on my headset and tried to be invisible.

Another memorable one was being seated next to this talkative old lady on my way to Italy. She turned out to be the aunt of that female singer of the cranberry group that was just becoming hot in Britain. She talked to me for the entire 3 hours on the flight. Although she was very sweet and lovely and interesting, it was exhausting to be on full attention for 3 hours on a flight.

Back to my flight to UK, when we were about to reach, the captain announced there was congestion at the airport and our landing was delayed for another 10 minutes. So for that time, we flew around the area near Heathrow and was given a bird's eye tour. It was such a treat, the city below twinkled beautifully like a tapestry of lights. There were a few spots where mini fireworks were let off, probably in celebration of the Halloween.
